Dawn Burks, Advocacy Services Manager

Dawn Burks, Dunn House Shelter Program Manager, commenced her journey with Community Works as a HelpLine volunteer in 2009, eventually joining the staff in 2011.

Family time holds a special place in Dawn’s heart, and she finds joy in exploring the outdoors, particularly the Oregon Coast. Dawn’s dedication to this work stems from her belief that freedom from fear and abuse is a fundamental human right. She is driven by a deep passion to aid abused individuals in reclaiming their voice, power, and sense of self-worth. Witnessing survivors’ stories and celebrating their victories is an honor for Dawn.

“I draw renewed strength from the community’s generosity. Many survivors have been made to feel worthless, and over time, they internalize this belief. When survivors experience the support of their community rallying around them, they come to realize their inherent value.”
